The Success of Starbucks Card Mobile App for iPhone and Android

Starbucks Card Mobile apps are available for Blackberry and Apple iPhone devices.

Starbucks launched its mobile payment service a year ago in its 7,000 stores in the United States and 1,000-plus Target stores, and today reports that it has processed 26 million mobile transactions. Just after nine weeks from its launch in January of 2011, consumers funded three million transactions; 6 million transactions in the nine weeks beginning in October. The entire program has had consumers loading a total of $2.4 billion to their Starbucks Card accounts, now used with one in four Starbucks purchases.

Starbucks mobile payment system was released in the U.S. in January. Consumers can use the iPhone or Android mobile app to load money on to a digital Starbucks Card and present a 2D barcode to pay-by-scan at the register at more than 9,000 locations. The program launched in Canada in November and will land in the United Kingdom in January 2012. The mobile app includes features like the option to reload the Starbucks Card, track Stars in the My Starbucks Rewards program, scan barcode on your mobile phone at the register, points you to the closest store and lets you search by amenities, explore the unique characteristics of each of their whole bean coffees, find nutrition information, build your own perfect drink, and share your location or favorite drinks through Facebook and Twitter.
