New Asian Undersea Cable Project

An 8,000 kilometer submarine undersea cable project that will be owned by telecommunication companies China Telecom, China Unicom, Chunghwa Telecom, KT, NTT Communications, PLDT, Telekom Malaysia and Vietnam’s VNPT will begin sevice in 2011 with an initial capacity of 4 terabits per second. Called the “Asia-Pacific Gateway,” it will link South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
